Nightmare

Lingering nightmare of departure yours
Lucidity of it, I blame my conscience for

I remember what I deprived you of, all
Days of sublime neutrality I stole
Days I spent in abyss while you called
Called out to me but I ignored

Quite the journey of guilt it was
You have forgiven but it aches like before
When we were happy and I had nothing more
When I realized what exactly was on store

Lack of age is a burden to be borne
Now mine to bear and yours to let go
But wait till I’m home, we could live a little more
Let me return some of what I owe

I have petitioned my claim of love lost
But I remember the stories, the sweets and your jokes
I’ve adored you, my superman of old
Just stay until I return what I stole

You can join all you missed once more
Once you tell me it’s all done and gone
I’ll say good bye and hold your hand while you’re warm
But until then don’t you dare let go
